About rustgenetics.com - Methodology and Contact

rustgenetics.com is an independent, browser-based planning tool for Rust plant genetics. This page explains what the calculator does, how it reaches a result, and where its limits are.

What rustgenetics.com does

The calculator compares the six gene slots of a center plant with the matching slots of surrounding donor plants. It searches one-step combinations first, then evaluates possible intermediate clones for two-step routes. Results are ranked by their calculated chance of matching the selected G, Y, and H target.

All route calculations run locally in your browser. Clone codes entered into the calculator are not sent to a calculation server.

Calculation model

The model currently uses these assumptions:

  • each plant has six independent gene slots;
  • G, Y, and H contribute a weight of 0.6;
  • W and X contribute a weight of 1.0;
  • donor influence is combined separately for every slot;
  • a donor result replaces the center gene only when its combined weight is greater than the center gene’s weight;
  • equal winning donor weights are treated as equally likely outcomes;
  • probabilities from independent tied slots are multiplied;
  • a two-step route includes the probability of producing its intermediate clone.

These numerical weights and tie handling are a community-derived model implemented by rustgenetics.com. Facepunch’s official farming notes confirm the six-slot system, per-slot crossbreeding, stronger negative-gene influence, planter-box requirement, and same-crop requirement, but they do not document every numerical edge case used by this calculator.

How to verify a route

Before committing a large clone bank, test the suggested setup with expendable clones:

  1. confirm that every entered clone contains exactly six valid genes;
  2. place the stated center clone in the center position;
  3. use only the listed donors of the same crop type;
  4. compare the in-game crossbreed result with the calculator output;
  5. report a reproducible mismatch with the input clones, target, and observed result.

Limitations

rustgenetics.com is a planning aid, not an official game simulator. A game update, server modification, incorrect clone input, OCR recognition error, placement error, or an undocumented mechanic can make the in-game result differ from the estimate. A displayed 100% means deterministic under the calculator’s current model and supplied inputs; it is not a guarantee against those external factors.

The tea calculator estimates berry requirements from its built-in recipe table. Its planter-harvest estimate uses an explicit planning assumption and can differ with plant genetics, health, environmental conditions, server settings, and game updates.
