Browser APIs We Use

Screen Capture API (Rust Scanner Feature)

The “Rust Scan” button in the calculator uses your browser’s Screen Capture API (getDisplayMedia) to allow you to select a region of your game window for optical character recognition (OCR) of gene sequences.

Important facts about this feature:

  • All screen capture processing happens entirely in your browser using the Tesseract.js library.
  • No image, screenshot, or video frame is ever transmitted to any server.
  • The screen stream is only active while the scan modal is open. It is immediately stopped when you close the modal.
  • You must explicitly grant permission to share your screen every time. No persistent screen access is retained.

Local Storage

The calculator may save your current clone list to your browser’s localStorage to persist your session data between page reloads.

  • This data never leaves your device.
  • You can clear it at any time by clearing your browser’s site data.

Analytics

We may use basic, privacy-respecting analytics (such as page view counts) to understand how many people visit the site. If analytics are active, they collect only:

  • Page URL visited
  • Country/region (not city or IP address)
  • Browser family and operating system
